Pool Policies
Lifeguards have the right to remove anyone for behavior that is deemed either unsafe or inappropriate.
Lifeguards have final authority on all matters concerning safety and emergency situations in all Ray Meyer Fitness & Recreation Center aquatic facilities until relieved by proper authorities.
The use of the pool is prohibited unless supervised by an authorized lifeguard, coach or instructor who is present at all times.
An adult must supervise children younger than 16 years of age at all times. It is the discretion of the lifeguard how closely or directly the parent should supervise the child (e.g. on deck, in the water or holding the child).
Non-swimmers may not rely on the use of flotation devices except when directly supervised by a proficient adult swimmer or authorized instructor.
Patrons are encouraged to shower before entering the water.
Running on the pool deck is not permitted.
Diving is prohibited, including shallow diving from the deck.
No food or beverages are allowed in the pool area except water in unbreakable containers. No glass may be brought onto the pool deck.
One long whistle blast is an alert from the lifeguard initiating the emergency again plan. Immediate evacuation of the pool must commence when this alarm is heard by patrons.
Half of the pool is designated for lap swimming and half is for open recreation (Unless otherwise noted for specific programs)
When three or more swimmers share a lane, they must swim in a circular manner. Speed designation signs may be placed on the deck to help encourage proper lane line usage in the lap swim lanes.
Kickboards and pull buoys are available on the swim deck. Goggles and swim diapers are available for purchase at the Equipment Issue area.
Because we are a one-lifeguard facility, please feel free to ask our lifeguards a question or provide customer feedback, but please keep conversations brief so as to ensure minimal distraction from their primary responsibility of observing and maintaining the safety of the pool area and patrons. If the topic you would like to discuss will take longer than a few minutes, please ask the lifeguard to contact a building manager to better assist you.
