Sustainability
Instructional Program Guide
In order to reduce the amount of paper and ink we use the Instructional Program guide is only available
online. Enjoy!
Green Steps Program
Green Steps is a walking challenge for DePaul Faculty and Staff. It provides structure and accountability to those who want to engage in regular physical activity. The program provides an opportunity to improve health, do something positive for the environment, and spend valuable time with friends and colleagues.
Bike Rentals
To help the environment and help you travel around town Campus Recreation offers
bicycle rentals for just $10 a day. Cruise on over and check them out!
Outdoor Adventures
Try one of our great
outdoor adventure programs at The Ray. We practice the
Leave No Trace principles to instruct students on how to minimize their affect on the environment when hiking, camping or just enjoying the outdoors.
Shoe Donation Program
The Ray is a drop-off site for
Share Your Soles, a 501(c)(3) organization
dedicated to putting shoes
on the soles of children and adults in the most impoverished areas of
the world. Our drop location is located to the left when you enter The
Ray, so bring your gently used shoes (any size and any type of shoe) to
help this great cause!.
Battery Recycling
The Ray has battery recycling containers to help keep heavy metals and toxic chemicals out of landfills. Drop off used batteries so they can be properly recycled.
Cell Phone Recycling
The Ray is an on-campus collection site for cell phones. Donated cell phones are given to
Call2Recycle, who separate the phone from the battery (sending the batteries to various recycling centers.) The phones are sent to
Market Velocity, a leader in electronic recycling solutions, who partners with the
National Cristina Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to the support of training through donated technology.
Recycling at DePaul
In an average month DePaul diverts
30% to 40% of it's overall waste stream to
recycling. Help the Ray and DePaul continue to increase these percentages by recycling your trash in one of recycling bins.
Green Cleaning
All the cleaning supplies used at The Ray and on our campuses are sustainable or eco-friendly. Visit the
Facility Operations page for more information.
Water Use
The Ray has low-flow sink hardware that limits use of water via a compression timer in order to reduce the amount of water used. We also have water bottle refill stations throughout the facility that eliminate the need for plastic water bottles.
STARS Audit
The Ray, along with DePaul University, is participating in the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS), a framework to measure sustainability in all sectors of higher education. Updates to come.
