Walking Routes

Walking is a great form of physical activity, providing a simple way to stay healthy, enjoy nature (or city sights), and connect with others.  In addition, it’s an effective stress-reducing tool, and you can experience the benefits in as short a period as a 10-minute break during a busy day.  If you have more time, try to accumulate 30 minutes of activity most days of the week at a moderate pace (e.g. a brisk walk) to get even greater benefits.

Below are a few suggested campus walking routes for the Lincoln Park and Loop campuses to get you started, with more on the way soon.  You can also use the same website (MapMyWalk) to search for other user-created routes or create your own!  To help you estimate the time needed for a particular walk: given that the average person can walk at a comfortable pace of 3 miles per hour, a 1-mile walk will take approximately 20 minutes.

Lincoln Park: Campus walk – 1 mile
Lincoln Park: Neighborhood walk - 2 miles
Lincoln Park: Student Center to Lincoln Park Zoo – 3.2 miles
Lincoln Park: The Ray to the Lakefront – 3.8 miles
