As always, there will be plenty of professional development programs, sessions and speakers at this year’s NIRSA Lead On Conference. The conference will be offering resume reviews and information regarding potential graduate assistantships and career opportunities throughout the region.
The Region III Mentor Program is a new development for this year’s conference. The Region III Mentor Program will be structured through the 2013 spring semester with suggested activities for mentors and mentees to complete. Students, graduate assistants, and professional staff will be involved and matched with their preference of mentor/mentee with similar interests. The program is free and non-NIRSA members are welcome to join. Individuals do not need to attend Region III Lead On to be apart of our program, but we encourage attendance in order to meet and greet with their assigned partners.
If people are not signed up by noon on Wednesday, January 16, they will not be partnered with a mentee or mentor until AFTER the conference has completed. Those who sign up after noon on January 16 will be partnered on a rolling basis and will join the program depending on it’s status during that time in the semester.
Are you uncertain if Campus Recreation is your preferred career choice? Are you unsure if you plan on working in Campus Recreation upon graduation? That’s okay! The Region III Mentor Program is still for you! You will be paired with an individual who can provide advice during the graduate school application process or navigating the job market. Additionally, activities throughout the semester will include familiarizing oneself with BlueFishJobs.com, shaping up your resume, providing you interview practice, and helping to hone your networking skills.
If you are interested in participating, please complete this form. You will be emailed before the conference with your mentor and will meet them at the conference lunch on Friday if you’re both in attendance. Following this interaction, the 2013 Lead On Professional Development Committee will provide you and your mentor structured activities to complete throughout the spring.
Graduate students and professionals - you too are needed to make this program possible! Mentors are needed work with younger students to provide the growth opportunities necessary to develop the future leaders of NIRSA and beyond. If you are interested in participating, please complete the form above. Encourage your co-workers to volunteer as well!
There will be many different opportunities to volunteer at the conference. If you are interested in volunteering, please indicate your interest on the registration form. You will be contacted shortly after to secure your participation. Please direct any volunteering related questions to Jillian Dolciato.
